1. DE LA SALLE (CONCORD) 12-0
Defeated Amador Valley (Pleasanton) 49-0. Amador had scored 28 and 45 in its previous two games. Spartan defense may be stepping it up. DLS plays James Logan of Union City next week and will be going for 21st consecutive section title and 24th straight win. Counting teams with forfeit losses (Vista Murrieta) in the last two years, the win streak also is now the longest current one in the state.
2. NARBONNE (HARBOR CITY) 13-0
Defeated Carson 39-12. It might even be bigger for the Gauchos’ prestige that they’ve beaten both teams in the CIF Southern Section Pac-Five finals. And they beat CIFSS Western Division finalist Serra of Gardena.
3. VISTA MURRIETA (MURRIETA) 13-0
Defeated Rancho Cucamonga 34-0. More than solid win for the Broncos. Does a win over Corona Centennial next week ensure a CIF Southern California Open Division berth? You’d think with the CIFSS Pac-Five title game matching teams that are 11-2 and 10-3 might do it, but we all know what happened last year. If going just by wins on the field, Vista Murrieta’s 27-game win streak also is now the longest in the state.
4. ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 12-1*
Lost to No. 19 Long Beach Poly 13-10. The Braves gave up the lead after they took it in the second half on a 65-yard interception return by Naijiel Hale, the son of rapper Nate Dogg. This was their first loss on the field. They also have four forfeit losses.
5. ST. BONAVENTURE (VENTURA) 11-2
Lost to No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 21-0. The fog rolled in at Larrabee Stadium in the early going and while it cleared later the fogginess for the Seraphs did not.
6. MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 11-2
Defeated No. 5 St. Bonaventure (Ventura) 21-0. The CIFSS will never publicly root for teams but trust us they like it when the Red Army gets to invade Anaheim Stadium for a CIFSS championship. Beating Santa Margarita earlier might have knocked the Eagles down from where they were in the rankings at the time, but this win was better because the Seraphs were the top seed and there was no doubt about it.
7. CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 12-1
Defeated No. 10 Upland 46-36. This win sets up a Corona Centennial vs. Vista Murrieta final for the CIFSS Inland Division crown and since we were there for last year’s fantastic matchup we have to be there for this year’s.
8. FRANKLIN (ELK GROVE) 12-1
Lost to Granite Bay 37-7. It isn’t surprising that Franklin lost to Granite Bay since the Grizzlies are the defending CIF Sac-Joaquin D1 champs, but the margin sure is. Part of the reason for the score, which we found out on Saturday, was that Franklin’s top three running backs missed the game with injuries.
9. FOLSOM 13-0
Defeated Buhach Colony (Atwater) 49-22. Notice the results above. Even before the scores started rolling in, Joe Davidson of the Sac Bee said he thought Folsom would have the edge in a possible selection over Franklin for the CIF NorCal Open Division if both were 14-0. Next week, Folsom will likely rise to No. 6 in the state overall and with one more win there is now no doubt that the Bulldogs would be in the Open Division (probably opposite you know who).
10. UPLAND 12-1
Lost to No. 7 Centennial (Corona) 46-36. For the second straight year, a 12-0 Upland team falls in the CIFSS Inland Division semis. This time, though, a gallant effort will pretty much ensure that the team’s final state ranking will be in the top 20 or higher.
11. BELLARMINE (SAN JOSE) 11-1
Defeated Serra (San Mateo) 17-12. No overtime was required in this second win by the Bells over the Padres. They will now go for their fourth CIF Central Coast Section Open Division title in five years next Friday against St. Ignatius of San Francisco, which defeated Archbishop Mitty 25-22 Saturday in the bracket’s other semifinal.
12. CRENSHAW (LOS ANGELES) 11-1**
Defeated Venice 59-10. Anybody who thinks that No. 2 Narbonne is going to cruise to the L.A. City title next week hasn’t been paying attention to what the Cougars have been doing.
13. ELK GROVE 12-1
Defeated Del Oro (Loomis) 35-32. Wadus Parker and Robert Frazier will present unique challenges for Folsom in next week’s CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II final. Just a hunch, but the Folsom vs. Elk Grove game probably was picked to be the Saturday night game next week at Sac State due to weather concerns for Friday. That one is certainly the top matchup of the weekend for the SJS.
14. OCEANSIDE 11-1
Defeated Valhalla (El Cajon) 31-28. The closeness of this score will only further complicate the evaluation of the Pirates with Huntington Beach Edison, Chaminade and Gardena Serra.
15. EDISON (HUNTINGTON BEACH) 12-1
Defeated Foothill (Tustin) 22-16. The closeness of this score will only further complicate the evaluation of the Chargers with Oceanside, Chaminade and Gardena Serra.
16. CHAMINADE (WEST HILLS) 12-1
Defeated Cathedral (Los Angeles) 45-7. With Serra’s win over Lompoc, Chaminade’s earlier win over Serra plus closer than expected scores for Oceanside and Edison, it’s likely that the Eagles will move to No. 1 in next week’s CIF D2 South bowl division rankings.
17. LOMPOC 12-1
Lost to No. 18 Serra (Gardena) 34-21. The Braves see their 32-game win streak, which was the longest in the state, come to an end. Serra may now go on to win a D2 state title, but that shouldn’t stop Lompoc from really trying to strengthen its nonleague schedule in future seasons.
18. SERRA (GARDENA) 11-2
Defeated No. 17 Lompoc 34-21. The Cavs now get a chance to avenge one of their two losses, which was to Chaminade, in the CIFSS Western Division final. Their only other loss was to No. 2 Narbonne and they have a win over Long Beach Poly.
19. LONG BEACH POLY (LONG BEACH) 10-3
Defeated No. 4 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 13-10. For the second straight week, the Jackrabbits’ defense gets key stops in the second half. We’re trying to remember if we’ve ever covered a team that lost a game 56-0 early in the season that has come back the way this team has. It’s 35 plus years of the memory banks and can’t find one. All you can do is tip your cap to coach Raul Lara and his staff.
20. MISSION VIEJO 11-1
Season complete. The Diablos were No. 4 one week ago whey they were the victims of the Long Beach Poly upset bug.
21. SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SM) 9-3
Season complete. The team’s ovetime loss to St. Bonaventure gets diminished a bit by the Seraphs getting shutout this weekend by Mater Dei.
22. BURBANK (SACRAMENTO) 12-1
Lost on Saturday 24-6 to No. 25 Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills). The Titans started slowly against the Trojans and could never get untracked. Watch out next year for 6-foot-3, 260-pound junior defensive tackle Ngalu Tapa.
23. ALEMANY (MISSION HILLS) 9-3
Season complete. Since the team’s CIFSS Pac-Five playoff loss was to Mater Dei and MD just beat St. Bonaventure there might be a slight bump for the Warriors in the next rankings.
24. TUSTIN 12-1
Lost to Villa Park 35-34. Just when we were starting to take the Tillers seriously, they get bounced from the CIFSS Southwest Division playoffs. So much for the possible 13-0 vs. 12-1 title game against Edison. Now it will just be Edison trying to beat Villa Park for the second time.
25. OAK RIDGE (EL DORADO HILLS) 12-1
Defeated No. 22 Burbank (Sacramento) 24-6 on Saturday. This win advanced the Trojans to next Friday’s SJS D1 final against Granite Bay. Since Oak Ridge’s only loss is to Folsom and the team just beat a 12-0 opponent, the team will be ranked higher next week than Granite Bay. Looks like most of the local scribes, though, will probably pick Granite Bay due to its track record and the manner in which the Grizzlies have been rolling as of late.

Chaminade is over confident; I sense Serra with a semi-upset. No matter how you sell it, Serra has 2 losses. Edison was losing till the end against Foothill and they may get upset Friday. Oceanside had crucial turnovers and had a tough game also. Next week is all that matters ! Nade faces its first quality team, Oceanside plays a very good team, and Edison plays an average team. Wait, it does not matter, for Mater Dei is playing for their future ?

Bottom line is Edison needed a fumble recovery to score a TD in the first half to go in tied, and had to come from behind and score with 2 min left to get a W. Edison has no offense. Any team with a very good offense and a good defense will blow them out. Foothill didnt have the running game to do it. Edison offense only scored 14 points and came within 2 minutes of losing to a team that only generated 200 yards of offense. A dynamic perfectly balanced offensive team like Nade will get 300 yds in 1 half, Serra with their speed would do the same. Chaminade or Serra will kill Edison if it comes down to it. that i would love to see.

That is why chaminade needs to play oceanside in regionals…they have an offense. We know that if Nade takes care of bizness this week they go to regional! Doesnt mean Oceanside cannot give you guys a game. You guys might have them in size and depth but are equal in speed.

This has become the D2 South message board, which is okay because that race has been among the most interesting this season. I love Oceanside’s history and passion as well and I also know this year’s team is talented. If Mater Dei and Edison both win next week, though, I just think the vote will go against Oceanside for the bowl berth and with everything that happened Friday there’s no way that the winner between Chaminade-Serra isn’t going, either. If you put yourself in the room with the 10 voting commissioners, the goal for the commissioner nominating his/her team is to help some of the others connect the dots, so to speak, especially in difficult choices. If it comes down to Oceanside vs. Edison, the Pirates’ loss to a CIFSS team will be mentioned as will Edison’s only loss being to Mater Dei. If Mater Dei happens to be the Pac-Five champ, that’s just probably going to be too big of a hill for Oceanside to climb.

Chaminade defense has 26 INT’s 5 returned for TD’s, 14 fumble recoveries 4 returned for TD’s and 2 blocked punts, one returned for a TD a blocked FG returned for a TD and 49 QB sacks. Thats 11 TD’s scored by the defense.
Like you said yourself its all about this year and I agree. As far as Im concerned Edison has never played in the Pac5 ever or could have been on a 50 game losing streak before the season started. They can only be what we see now. Nothing more nothing less.

The SD Section has the highest percentage of wins at the State Bowl .714 (5-2). The SS section in the past 20 years has very seldom played the SD section, and it is very close. You have 2 wins with Vista over Mission Viejo, Valley center over Los als etc. Oceanside has held its own against the SS with wins over LB Poly, Chapparal (2 times), San Clemente, and beating Bellarmine (Nocal power). The SS section is very large and is strong ONLY due to the Pac-5 teams (mostly private schools) and 2 inland teams. Oceanside does not have a losing record against SS teams it is 4-4. Edison plays in the very weak Sunset league (those teams are equal to Carlsbad), and the V6 is worst. Edison has no business getting a playoff bid only based on how well a private school who beat them does. Bling, don’t pollute this board with your madness and made up nonsense.

Edison played who they’ve played and had 5 shutouts. They’ve beat who’ve they’ve played. Chaminade killing teams but have Serra this week. If they win that, they’re a lock for Regional Champ game. Not sure Oside’s schedule and if they’ve had signature wins or not. They lost to Chapparal who lost 4 straight. Edison v Chapparal/ Serra winner in my opinion.

@Marktennis52 After watching the Narbonne game film against Carson, they do not deserve to play in the open against De La Salle. The Broncos have the best shot at beating DLS. Narbonne can play in the D1 bowl game but against DLS they wil be out coached. Also the only team to beat DLS in the bowl came from the Inland Dvision.

Your point doesn’t make sense because Narbonne and Vista Murrieta probably will play each other in the SoCal Open Division game. You also are incorrect about the Inland Division being the only team to beat DLS in the bowl games. Canyon did it that first year in 2006 and came from the Northern Division.

The Sunset League is still the #5 ranked public school league in the Southern Section.
The Sunset is not weak, unless it is compared to the Trinity League…
And compared to the Trinity League, every league in the country is weak…
The San Diego Section is comparable to the SS Central Division.
Oceanside is proabably as good as Moreno Valley Rancho Verde and/or Heritage…

The bottom line is the only team Edison has lost to is Mater Dei by 6 points. Mater Dei is now in the PAC 5 Finals and whether they win or lose strength of schedule must be evaluated. Edison will get a State bid based on that fact. The PAC 5 is known as a powerhouse division. Sorry to be the one to state the obvious people.

For some strange reason Mark Tennis is the only person who keeps mentioning Oceanside as a potential rep for the D2 game.
Mark Tennis has used some very strange logic (and I use that term loosely here) to support Oceanside too…
#1: If we are talking about 2012, what does any other previous year have to do with it? Oceansides’ previous appearances in the State Bowl Game have been cited (almost every week) by Tennis to support Oceanside.
#2: Another irrelevant argument Tennis makes is references to the amount of talent Oceanside has. Talent could be used (sparingly IMO) as a reason to rank for the preseason, but once the season starts only Winning% & SoS should be used. (Scout.com ****Stars**** only go so far)
In the BCS they have a metric called “Bad Loss”, which can be defined IMO as a loss to a team not in the top 30. Oceanside lost to Chaparral (who is not in the SS top 30) in a game that was not even competitive (Chaparral was up by 3 TD’s at one point).

We often get into debates with people about the importance of past success and/or track record.
Some believe it means absolutely nothing. We have always maintained that it means something, especially in close selections.
For Oceanside vs. Edison, Chaminade and Serra, the way the results have played out clearly favors the other three and you’ll see that in this week’s D2 South bowl rankings.
If Oceanside beats Poway this week, however, that would make it eight San Diego Section titles in the last nine years plus two CIF state titles in the same time span. It means something and the meaning of that accomplishment becomes more clear after that last final win.
I’ve seen them play six or seven times over the years, too, and their best teams can play with anybody. Those Oceanside-Helix games when Helix had Reggie Bush and Alex Smith were epic.
I think most people who don’t think the past has anything to do with the current season are mostly looking at computer rankings and strength of schedule rankings. I’ve never said that way of looking at it is wrong, but the other way isn’t wrong, either.
I can’t count how many times over the years that De La Salle has been ranked behind CIFSS teams mostly by people who believe the past counts for nothing. Just last year, some had Westlake higher, two years ago Servite higher. We all know how ridiculous those rankings were.
Finally, I only made one reference I think about Oceanside’s talent this year. The loss to Chaparral at the time wasn’t so bad because Chaparral was ranked higher than Oceanside. Then when Chaparral lost, Oceanside started rolling and the problem is that we’re not going to drastically drop a team in the rankings when they’re winning. Many teams have hopped Oceanside since then and will continue to do so because yes indeed that has turned out to be a “bad loss.”

Bronco fan…. La Serna beat Westlake which has beaten Crenshaw/ Granite Bay/Del Oro. Let’s go by the current year accomplishments. The Juniors on this squad were undefeated as Freshman….the majority of them will be around next year. We already have beaten Downey away. La Serna will be around for years to come. Yes the West Covina loss was tough on the kids even though the majority staters were soph and juniors last year.
I think most of you will agree that the current system needs to improve so that start up programs get a shot at the state bowls, but that is what they have been doing with the BCS.
This is to be fun for the kids. Chaminade keep everyone honest.

Settle down Blng, Edison is a public school by the way. Chaminade has not won anything yet, neither has Edison or Oceanside.
As for history, Chaminade coach Ed Croson took a down and out Birmingham program in 2000 resurected it winning 4 LA City titles and had a D1 bowl contender in 2007.Croson is now in his 4th season at Nade. He started with 18 kids in the off season program when he arrived back in 2009. He took a team that was 3-8 in 2008 with 18 kids in the varsity off season program, recruited kids on campus from other sports and went 7-5 in his first year 2009, was 11-2 and lost in the semi finals in 2010 almost beating state bowl team Serra during league play. Last year went 10-3 and again lost to a very good AG team in the semis. AG would have beaten Del Oro last year IMO. This year Nade is 12-1 having played one of the more difficult schedules of all D2 teams in the state. they have beaten Pac5 quarter finalist Notre Dame, Lacity semi finalist Venice, Northern div semi finalist and Western div finalist Serra and Ark state 5A semi finalist Pulaski academy this season. Nades only loss was a game they played without starting QB Brad Kaaya to Oaks Christian a team that has plenty of history. Oaks is not your average team. They are a team that spanked Granite bay and Del Oro from up north. Two teams that played in a hard fought semi final game up there last week. there is no shame in losing to Oaks without your starting QB.
That should settle any arguement about the quality of coaching at Nade.

Stop your whining, your team has nothing to show for. Edison like chaminade is a once in a lifetime team. Within a year or two those two teams will be nothing but a footnote in whatever weak league they play.

Talk about weak leagues. For the last 5 years, The league Oceanside plays in has been rated lower than the Mission league where Nade plays. look it up before you make crap up.

Blng Blng has been bannished from several blog boards, and he critizes all except Edison and LB Poly (for some reason). He is talking Keith Sweat ” I’m wanna ” smack. Bottom line is all 3 teams have to win this week. Edison plays nobody.Chaminade has never won anything, so this Chaminade cat is all excited and what not……….

At the end of the day Edison has played the weakest schedule, including playoffs, by far… There only claim to fame is a loss to the only good team they played all year… Also had more than a couple less than stellar games against some very average opponents… I know its not their fault their league is garbage and Servite turned out to be a dud but at least look good in beating those teams… On more than a few occasions they have not…

Edison has a higher SoS than every team save Gardena Serra….
The Sunset League has a winning record vs. both the little8 and the San Diego Section…

Edison’s schedule is not stronger than Oceanside’s… nice try… Oceanside has beaten 4 teams that are playing for a section title this week… Edison has beaten 1 and it’s in the sorry D6 southwest division… 99% of quality football teams in the SS play in the PAC5 and Inland… There is a huge drop off from there… you know it as the Sunset league… Where are you seeing that Edison’s schedule was tougher than Oceanside’s? calpreps? that is completely worthless.. Like I’ve said before… Edison does not a have a win to the quality of Mission Hills or Poway (x2)… Nice loss to MD keep living off it…
Btw, I’ve proved it on another board but the Sunset does not have a winning % against the SD section… look it up clown…

You base that Edison’s schelude (and 5th ranking) is better by some computer ranking that was initially based on the opinion of a few men several years ago. All nonsense. Chaminade is beating his chest and illustrating information on their coach? Oceanside is past that over excited stage.They have 2 State Championship rings, and the San Diego section is 5-2 in State Bowls, which is the highest ranking. Chaminade has one of those teams they get, well they never had every 10 years. Oceanside is consistant every year, and they are a public school without the benifits and $ of a private school.

Edison consistently plays the toughest pre-season schedule while they were in the Pac 5 and now that they are in the Southwest Division (Mater Dei, Servite & San Clemente (who they set up on their pre-season schedule after they were last years PAC 5 Finals runner up) Edison beat them this year 31-3…nothing has changed. Edison chases the best teams to get ready for their season every year. Let’s be honest and give credit where credit is due. All the D2 teams battling for a state bid are strong contenders and have their positives & negatives. But we all know that when CIF sits down they are not looking at previous seasons, previous state bowl appearances/records, previous players etc…they are looking at THIS YEARS TEAM. They want to make sure that they give the team who has played the toughest contenders and shown that in doing so they deserve a chance to prove themselves in a State Bowl bid. I for one am looking forward to some good games this weekend and may the BEST teams win & the BEST TEAM get the bid.

Calpreps is not perfect, but Oceanside guy has not pointed out a better system…
Other than his sorry opinion…
San Diego (is that really a German word) does not play good HS football…
Oceanside got worked by the 3rd place team from the SWL (which is not a good league to begin with)

Let it all play out this Friday and Saturday! Remember, it is actual people that vote to see who enters the regional playoff game not computers and rankings…which are taken into account. However, to the despise of chaminade and blng_blng, tradition and past history means something to the CIF commissioners and they do take it into account. BTW, SD section is rockin 100% in Div 1&2 state games…Western Division…0%!!! I predict either chaminade or edison will lose especially if it rains.

Nade, just saying that when it rains the ball somehow tends to slip out of athlete’s hand at the most costly of time and there is nothing you can do about it…Or if you are passing somehow the qb’s throws are less accurate and receivers with the best hands have trouble catching the ball. Ask Serra this weekend about 2010 bowl game. They will tell ya the same.

Chaminade will pound the hell out of any team that is put in front of them if its raining.
Newby has carried the ball about 800 times in his HS careeer and has maybe 4 fumbles.
It was raining up in Morro bay a couple weeks ago and nade had no problems.

This year rain will not affect Edison…it’s a running team. In prior years Edison’s CIF final appearances has always had passing teams playing in the rain. AND let’s not forget to mention the obvious…that DEFENSE straight up makes plays and wins games!!!!!

This entire year on offense they have had only 5 TO’s…. 2 int’s thrown by the backup QB (I would actually call him the goal line offense QB) and 3 fumbles.
Defensively they have 40 takeaways and 3 blocked kicks 2 for TD’s on defense. Nade ball handlers take care of the ball and their defense is very opportunistic and creates lots of turnovers.
If Nade beats Serra Friday night I dont see anyone stopping them.IMO
