It’s a tough call for Division III, but St. John Bosco has one win that can’t be overlooked. The only CIF state champion ending No. 1 in its division (due to Open Division teams being higher) is Horizon in D5. We have top teams to watch for next year in this post as well.

The Santa Ana Mater Dei boys basketball team may have just defeated San Jose Archbishop Mitty in the first CIF Open Division state final, but Mitty has still ended No. 1 in its division in the final Cal-Hi Sports divisional state rankings.

Mitty is No. 1 in the final rankings in Division II with Mater Dei finishing No. 1 in Division I. It is the third straight season that Mitty has completed its season in the top position in its division. This time, losing in the Open Division final is the difference compared to winning the CIF Division II state title.

The other final No. 1 teams according to division are St. John Bosco of Bellflower (D3), Salesian of Richmond (D4) and Horizon Christian of San Diego (D5). Only Horizon won a CIF state title. The other two, like Mitty, were teams that lost in the open division.
