The best teams seem to be settling in for the playoffs. Still running in the first five slots are Mission Viejo, Mater Dei, Pacifica, Archbishop Mitty and Yorba Linda. Just a slight bump for Santiago of Corona after win over Norco.

Junior pitcher Lindsey Chalmers, third-sacker Kwyn Cooper and senior first-base girl Katelyn Linford are the heart and soul of a San Ramon California team that currently leads the East Bay Athletic League at 8-0 and may make some big noise in the upcoming CIF North Coast Section Division I playoffs.

There weren’t really any record book entries we could find, but a bunch of stat standouts as we head towards the home stretch of the baseball and softball season. These weekly highlights support growth of the Cal-Hi Sports State Record Book & Almanac.

CIF Southern Section teams Mater Dei (D1), Mission Viejo (D2) and Burbank (D3) are joined as top-ranked teams in the state this week by Wheatland (D4) of the CIF Northern Section and unbeaten Redwood Christian (D5) of the CIF North Coast Section.

California of San Ramon surges up to No. 17 as state’s lone newcomer this week. Unbeaten Archbishop Mitty also gets a bump into the top five. The rest of the top group, however, is dominated by Orange County.

Preseason No. 1 Cathedral Catholic hanging on by a thread due to suspensions, but still could be dangerous team for the playoffs. This week’s only newcomer is Redlands, which also have moved to the top of its CIF Southern Section division.
