Pleasant Grove (7-4) is attempting to get to the title game for the third straight season.

Had first-round bye in CIF North Coast Section Division I playoffs. Spartans have won 20 consecutive section titles.
2. NARBONNE (HARBOR CITY) 11-0
Defeated Locke (Los Angeles) 57-14. Continues to look like No. 15 Crenshaw is only team in the L.A. City that can sniff a close game with the Gauchos.
3. VISTA MURRIETA (MURRIETA) 11-0
Defeated South Hills (West Covina) 34-6. Make it 25 in a row on the field for the Broncos.
4. MISSION VIEJO 11-0
Defeated Westlake (Westlake Village) 42-10. Westlake started with high hopes after playing in CIF Open Division bowl game last year but ran into team that is surging.
5. ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 11-0*
Defeated Tesoro (Las Flores) 38-17. This one was close at halftime. Braves have to take on Sherman Oaks Notre Dame next.
6. ST. BONAVENTURE (VENTURA) 10-1
Defeated Cabrillo (Long Beach) 39-7. The Seraphs now get a chance to avenge their only loss in CIFSS Pac-Five quarters vs. No. 12 Santa Margarita.
7. MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 9-2
Defeated Lakewood 71-10. Although Long Beach Poly had a good night, the Moore League (Lakewood was 2nd) is getting pretty beat up as a member of the Pac-Five Division.
8. CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 10-1
Defeated Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga) 47-10. Remember that junior QB Robert Webber was making his first start in first game, which was against No. 6 St. Bonaventure and is the only game the Huskies have lost.
9. FRANKLIN (ELK GROVE) 11-0
Defeated Nevada Union (Grass Valley) 35-14. Miners were leading 14-7 at one point but end up 5-6 on the year. Franklin will play Lincoln of Stockton next, a 52-7 winner over Merced, in second-round of Sac-Joaquin D1 playoffs.
10. FOLSOM 11-0
Defeated Atwater 59-12. Seven more touchdown passes for sophomore QB Jake Browning.
11. UPLAND 11-0
Defeated Great Oak (Temecula) 35-6. This is possibly the most quiet 11-0 team in the state. Few expect the Highlanders to get into the CIFSS Inland Division final, but clearly there are some top-level D1 players in the lineup.
12. SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA) 9-2
Defeated No. 23 El Toro 38-13. Solid bounce-back win for the Eagles after their loss to No. 5 St. John Bosco. They get No. 6 St. Bonaventure next.
13. BELLARMINE (SAN JOSE) 9-1
Defeated Sacred Heart Cathedral 42-13. Coach Mike Janda’s team likely to get top-seed for CIF Central Coast Section Open Division. Bells won title last year and in 2008, 2009.
14. OCEANSIDE 9-1
Had first-round bye in CIF San Diego Division II playoffs as top seed. Defending CIF Division II state bowl champ Helix is the No. 2 seed.
15. CRENSHAW (LOS ANGELES) 9-1**
Defeated Arleta 38-7. Rivals from Dorsey are next in the L.A. City D1 quarterfinals.
16. ELK GROVE 10-1
Defeated Ponderosa (Shingle Springs) 41-0. Robert Frazier made plays for the Thundering Herd on both sides of the ball.
17. EDISON (HUNTINGTON BEACH) 10-1
Defeated Esperanza (Anaheim) 27-3. Based on preseason coaching records, we think Chargers’ coach Dave White needs just one more to get to 200 for his career.
18. CHAMINADE (WEST HILLS) 10-1
Defeated Pacifica (Oxnard) 64-11. Eagles’ only loss to Oaks Christian, which is a team that just lost to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, a team the Eagles beat. It’s not the same as avenging a loss, but it still looks good.
19. LOMPOC 11-0
Defeated St. Francis (La Canada) 42-7. Okay, now we’re getting somewhere with the Braves. St. Francis lost 42-14 earlier to Chaminade. A rout is a rout but it sure wouldn’t have looked good for the rankings if St. Francis score was close.
20. ALEMANY (MISSION HILLS) 9-2
Defeated Moorpark 42-7. Since Moorpark was coming in after a win over Westlake, this was an impressive outing for the Warriors. They will have work to do in next game against No. 7 Mater Dei.
21. SERRA (SAN MATEO) 8-2
Lost to St. Francis (Mountain View) 24-0 at home on Saturday. Turnovers doomed the Padres in result (along with St. Ignatius beating Mitty) that shakes up which WCAL teams will go to CCS Open Division and which will not.
22. OAKS CHRISTIAN (WESTLAKE VILLAGE) 8-3
Lost to Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 28-27. This will be the first time in nine years that the Lions will not make it to a section final. A late missed PAT prevented a tie score and overtime.
23. EL TORO (LAKE FOREST) 9-2
Lost to No. 12 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) 38-13. Congratulations to Chargers’ quarterback Conner Manning for a fantastic high school career.
24. CLOVIS 9-1
Had first-round bye in CIF Central Section Division I playoffs. We have a choice to make in the next rankings, though, because No. 23 El Toro is now done but has a win from early in the season over the Cougars.
25. SERRA (GARDENA) 9-2
Defeated Oxnard 49-14. Since the Cavs have a win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and NDSO just knocked out No. 22 Oaks Christian, it’s pretty obvious which team should go into the top 25 next.

Edison struggled offensively against a wildcard team last night. Unless they have a defense equal to a D-1 Ncaa football team, there is no sign that they could compete with Oceanside. At this point in the season, who you beat or lost to or any other stats comparisons etal. is only useful for a history book.

@Ma Julian. That makes perfect sense. We should all dismiss quantifiable variables that give relevant insight (what the dictionary terms “facts”)… Oceanside got beat by Chaparral dude. The only SS team they played all year, Oceanside allowed them to score 40 points and lost. The San Diego Section is not that good and if they were in the Southern Section would be about as good as the Central Division.

Oceanside beat Mission Hills, whom has played the closest to Mission Viejo (lost by 14 pts).Mission Viejo will beat Mater Dei by at least 24. Edison does not hold up to Max Julian’s standards. The SD Section top teams (Oceanside, Helix, Mission Hills, Poway) are Pac-5 level teams. No team in the Sunset or V6 could beat the ladder. Oceanside 35 Edison 0

Again, the top SD II Section teams are much stronger than the V6, and Oceanside, Helix, Mission Hills (D I), and Poway can compete in Pac 5. Mission Hills demostrated that by staying within 14 pts against Mission Viejo.

SD Section has 4 State titles within the last five years. How can anyone argue with that. Obviously other section commissioners chose the three teams from SD to represent the south in those bowl games (2007 D2 O’side, 2008 D2 Catherdral Catholic, 2009 D1 O’side, 2011 D2 Helix) because we are the real deal. Now that there is a regional game to choose the south representative, SD teams will definitely lay the smack down if we are chosen again. Don’t hate on us.

#21 Serra’s loss has NO effect whatsoever as to which teams from the WCAL will go to the open division and which ones won’t. #1 Seed -Bellarmine, #5 Seed (Serra – same seed they would have gotten even with a win), #6 St. Ignatious, #8 Mitty. St. Francis is #1 in Division II (no shot for open no matter what outcome of game w/Serra), Valley Christian #3 and Riordan #7 in DII (both had no shot for open division). Only Sacred Heart not in playoffs. WCAL – Best league in Nor Cal!

@bling, I provided Calpreps version of strength of schelude, and since you base all your views on these types of things, they have Oceanside with a stronger strength of schelude. It has nothing to do with my opinion. My opinion is that Oceanside is the best D-II in the state.
